I have to say, patterned text is probably my favourite effect ever! I know it’s simple and it’s been done thousands of times, but I just can’t get enough. This is something you can do to spice up your blog / web page / logo / infographic and give the impression that you  know what you’re doing even though, in reality, you’ve only spent a couple of minutes.

I always use patterned text it to bring a little life into my images. Yes, I could have just used a regular old dot in the following pictures, but I didn’t. I made it gold and shimmery because it’s the smallest things that count – and I love gold. Maybe that’s the real reason. But without further ramblings, let’s get this party started!

STEP 4: Now, drag your image into your project. When you first import it, it probably isn’t the right size so make sure it covers the text you want to transform. Hold down shift to be sure you keep the original proportions. This may not be important with a texture like the one in my image, but if you are working with a photo, you will want to make sure the proportions don’t get messed up.

STEP 5: This is when the magic happens! When you have covered your text, the only thing you have to do is create a clipping mask. Just go to Layer and choose Create Clipping Mask and you will get your patterned text.

This is the final result. However, if you want to use your new effect on photos, in your header or something like that, you may want to get rid of the white background.

If you press the eye icon to the left of your background layer, the background will disappear and then you’re left with only your text. Save as a PNG and you’re done!
